Register now to “Run the Course!” Registration for the 4th Annual Grand Prix 5K, which will take place Sunday, April 3, is now open at thegrandprix5k.com.
The popular event will benefit local charities through the Grand Prix Foundation of Long Beach.
Participants will run a two-lap tour of the world-famous Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach racecourse including Pine Avenue and Seaside Way, with the finish at the official Grand Prix start/finish line on Shoreline Drive. Kids 12-and-under can get in on the action with the Kid’s Turbo 1K, which will take place at 9:15 a.m. after the main races on a portion of the regular racecourse. The other two races will be the Elite/Pro 5K (those who can finish the race in under 25 minutes) which will start at 7:30 a.m. and the Open 5K for the general public, beginning at 8:00 a.m.
“We are excited for this year’s Grand Prix 5K,” said Rick DuRee, president of the Grand Prix Foundation. “Last September’s race had really strong participation after the cancellation in 2020 and postponement last April due to the pandemic. Now we’re looking forward to putting on a great event at our traditional time of year for runners of all ages and skill levels to run the iconic Acura Grand Prix racecourse for a great cause: local charities.”
Entry fees for the Grand Prix 5K will be $25 per person for the Elite and Open categories from now until Jan. 23, with each paid person being entered in a drawing to win a ride in an Acura NSX pace car around the Acura Grand Prix racetrack. The drawing will take place at the conclusion of the 5K.
On Jan. 24, the entry fees will go up to $30 for the Elite and Open categories until Feb. 20, then rise to $40 through March 20 and $45 thereafter. The entry fee entitles each paid runner a finisher medal, an official Grand Prix 5K t-shirt, post-race refreshments and two complimentary Friday general admission tickets to the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, a $74 value. In addition, there will be activities in the 5K festival area at the conclusion of the run.
The Kid’s Turbo 1K entry fee will be $10 until Feb. 20 – increasing to $15 through race day – and include a finisher medal and post-race refreshments.
Grand Prix 5K age divisions will include under 14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79 and 80+. Age division winners will win prizes in the Open and Elite races.
The Grand Prix 5K, organized in conjunction with Run Racing, is an event that will raise money for the Grand Prix Foundation’s local charitable endeavors which include funding for the Long Beach Special Olympics, Ronald McDonald House, Century Club, Short Stop, Operation Jump Start and many others.
The Grand Prix Foundation of Long Beach is a 501 (c)(3) publicly supported organization whose purpose is to raise funds through a series of charitable events held in conjunction with the Acura Grand Prix. With the Foundation’s low administrative costs, approximately 90 cents of every dollar raised goes to benefit Long Beach charities every year.
