Craig Bennett’s 1974 Shadow Tops Can-Am Qualifying!
Wixom, Michigan native Craig Bennett steered his 1974 Shadow DN4 to a 1:20.066 fast lap to take the pole position for The Can-Am Challenge, scheduled to take the green flag at 11:40 a.m. today as part of the 43RD Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.
Craig’s brother, Kirt, drove a similar 1974 Shadow DN4 to second place on the grid with a time of 1:22.365.
Another Wixom resident, Claude Malette, rounded out the top three with a 1:25.905 lap in his 1971 Lola T222.
The 20-minute Can-Am Challenge, featuring the earth-shaking, 1,000-hp Can-Am Series cars from the years 1966-1974, is presented by the Historic Motor Sports Association, which produces historic racing events across the U.S.
