Banc of California & LBUSD to Bring 150 High School Students to Grand Prix!
Banc of California, Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD) and the Grand Prix Association of Long Beach have partnered again to bring about 150 high school students for a day of learning at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach on Friday, Sept. 24.
The LBUSD students, junior and senior STEM students from California Academy of Math and Science in Carson, as well as Long Beach’s Jordan, McBride, Sato and Avalon high schools have been selected because they are studying engineering, green power and business at their respective schools.
“We are thrilled students across LBUSD high schools will get an opportunity to attend the Grand Prix of Long Beach again this year,” said Dr. Jay Camerino, LBUSD Assistant Superintendent of High Schools. “It is such a unique opportunity for students to learn about a wide array of careers and opportunities at such a fun, high-profile event. For instance, students will see how STEM is fundamental in the building and maintenance of high-tech racecars, which is a really exciting career-linked learning connection. We love this event and are grateful to our partners at the Grand Prix Association and Banc of California for making this one-of-a-kind experience possible for students in LBUSD.”
The students, split into smaller groups, will tour different race paddocks at the Grand Prix, where race teams prepare their cars for the racetrack, as well as pit lane and the Lifestyle Expo, plus have a chance to watch the race cars run on the track. They will also receive lunch and the opportunity to hear a number of guest speakers from the racing community, courtesy of Banc of California.
“We are committed to ensuring that our youth have the tools to succeed in personal money management,” said Chris Garcia, VP, Community Reinvestment Act for Banc of California. “We are proud to work side by side with the Grand Prix to provide financial education to these students and help to build the foundation for financial success. Banc of California proudly invests, lends and volunteers in the communities we serve and are a proud sponsor of our long-time client, the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.”
