Banc of California & LBUSD Team to Bring 150 Students to Grand Prix!

Banc of California, Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD) and the Grand Prix Association of Long Beach have partnered to bring about 150 high school students for a day of learning at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach on Friday, April 12.

The LBUSD students, junior and senior STEM students from Cabrillo, Jordan, Long Beach Poly, McBride, Millikan, Sato and Avalon high schools, and have been selected because they are studying engineering, green power and business at their respective schools.

“Our students gain valuable work-based learning experiences through LBUSD’s partnership with the Grand Prix Association and Banc of California,” said Peter Davis, LBUSD Assistant Superintendent of High Schools.  “Students enjoy an up-close look at how to build and maintain high-tech racecars, and they learn about the numerous businesses, services and occupations involved in a major event like the Grand Prix.  The whole experience is a fun and exciting way to open students’ eyes to an array of career opportunities available to them.”

The students will tour race paddocks at the Grand Prix, where race teams prepare their cars for the racetrack, as well as pit lane, the Lifestyle Expo and get to watch the cars run on the track. They will also receive lunch and the opportunity to hear a number of guest speakers from the racing community, courtesy of Banc of California.

“Banc of California has supported the Long Beach Unified School District and our long-time client, the Grand Prix Association of Long Beach, in its development and execution of their financial literacy programs for students,” said Chris Garcia, Vice President of Community Development for Banc of California. “Together we really do win! We are proud partners of these two organizations. Together, we believe with the continued investment in our youth and the communities we can make a difference in California.”
