Rhys Millen won the inaugural Red Bull Drifting World Championship Nov. 15-16 at the Port of Long Beach....and took home the biggest single prize purse in drifting history: $25,000!
Millen's Red Bull Pontiac Solstice ouduelled runner-up Daijiro Yoshihara (Bridgestone/RMR Pontiac GTO), who took home $15,000. Tanner Foust (Rockstar/AEM Nissan 350Z) was third and banked $10,000.
The event, first of its kind, was held on a special venue at the sprawling Port of Long Beach that featured a purpose-built drifting track highlighted by a fast entry and six technical turns. Millen clocked the fastest entry speed of all 32 drivers....103.7 MPH during the finals.
"All the teams, fans, sponsors, supporters -- and especially Red Bull and the City of Long Beach -- made the Red Bull Drifting World Championship a truly historic event," said Jim Liaw, president and co-founder of Formula DRIFT. "It was one of the best drifting competitions ever."
