Terry Angstadt, president of the commercial division of the Indy Racing League, was in town for a series of meetings recently and brought along some interesting stats. For example:
* Viewership of IndyCar Series races on ESPN was up 27% from 2007, while 41% more viewers watched IndyCar races on ESPN2 and 10% more on ABC-telecast races;
* Track attendance at IndyCar races was up at 12 of the 16 venues in 2008;
* On-site merchandise sales soared up 25% over 2007, and
* Indycar.com, the series web site, had 33% more visit during 2008.
All of which bodes well for open-wheel racing in the U.S. in 2009!
