The well-oiled racing machine that is Penske Racing took a major hit with the news that Indy 500 AND "Dancing With The Stars" champion Helio Castroneves and his sister will be indicted on six counts for failure to pay taxes on more than $5 million in income over a four-year period.
The news means that, conceivably, there'll be an empty seat in the #3 Penske entry that needs filling for 2009.
It won't be filled by Dan Wheldon, who as already jumped from Target Chip Ganassi into the cockpit of the #4 Delphi National Guard car for Panther Racing. It won't be Dario Franchitti, who took over Wheldon's #10 Dallara Honda for Chip Ganassi and will join teammate and '08 series king Scott Dixon to take the green flag October 25th in Australia (10:30 p.m. E.T., ESPN Classic).
Maybe it'll be A. J. Allmenginger, who was released from NASCAR's #84 Red Bull Toyota and will be looking for a job. Maybe even Scott Speed, who bombed in his Formula One crusade and needs work.
Regardless, it shapes up as quite an interesting "Silly Season" in the IndyCar world!
