Amazing how fickle Lady Luck can be!
Just days after their transporter burned to the ground -- taking with it their primary cars, tools, uniforms and who-knows-what-else! -- Team Penske rebounded big-time when Helio Castroneves notched a win at the Peak Antifreeze & Motor Oil Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma County last Sunday.
And, to make it even better, Castroneves' teammate, Ryan Briscoe, finished second!
It was Castroneves' first win of the season, 13th of his career and he established a new IndyCar record by winning races in eight consecutive seasons.
Tony Kanaan finished third, with Dan Wheldon and Danica Patrick rounding out the top five. Points leader Scott Dixon finished 12th, his lowest finish since St. Petersburg, and his lead over Castroneves was shaved to only 43 points.
"What an incredible effort by Team Penske," Castroneves said. "Everyone has been working so hard since the transporter incident, taking cars back and forth from Charlotte and converting them from oval to road course setups. They did about two days work in 12 hours. You see guys going that, you want to make it a special day for them with a win.
"I can't thank them enough, because the car was extremely fast."
The Motor City is next, with the Detroit Grand Prix Presented by Firestone on ABC-TV at 3:30 E.T.
