KANAAN'S LUCK FINALLY CHANGES WITH WIN AT RICHMOND

admin | 01 July, 2008 09:53

Tony Kanaan finally caught some breaks, steering his Dallara/Honda around and through a variety of crashes to win the SunTrust Indy Challenge at Richmond International Raceway last weekend.

It was Kanaan's first win since Detroit last September, and his first oval win since Kentucky last August. But it wasn't easy.

The 300-lap race was hampered by a near-record 106 caution laps under nine yellow flags. The IndyCar record is 116 caution laps at Nazareth Speedway in 2002.

Helio Castroneves finished second behind Kanaan, followed by series points leader Scott Dixon, Dan Wheldon and ex-Champ Car driver Oriol Servia, who notched his career-best finish on an oval.

Justin Wilson, Graham Rahal, Will Power and the rest of the ex-Champ Car drivers have to be looking forward to better results this weekend: the IndyCar Series heads to Watkins Glen, NY, for a more-comfortable road course!

The 60-lap Camping World Grand Prix will be televised live by ABC at 3:30 p.m. E. T. Sunday, July 4.
