INDY 500 NEXT FOR EX-CHAMP CAR DRIVERS, INDYCAR SERIES

admin | 28 April, 2008 12:34

With the exception of Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach winner Will Power - who had an ill-timed meeting with the wall after only 22 laps - the rest of the ex-Champ Car drivers continued their oval track education without much incident Sunday at Kansas Speedway.

Dan Wheldon won the RoadRunner Turbo 300 ahead of Tony Kanaan after Wheldon's Target Ganassi teammate Scott Dixon - who dominated the first 3/4 of the 200-lap race - had an ill-timed final pit stop, a yellow flag coming out while he was in the pits. That handed the lead to Wheldon, with Dixon recovering to finish third.

Justin Wilson (9th) had the best finish among the ex-Champ Car pilots, with Oriol Servia finishing 11th. Graham Rahal, winner at St. Petersburg earlier this season, was 12th and fell to 10th in the IndyCar Series points chase. Danica Patrick finished 19th.

The IndyCar Series now heads for the Midwest and a busy month leading up to the May 25 Indianapolis 500.
