Danica Patrick, fresh from her IndyCar victory at Motegi and pooped after a long flight, made a pit stop in Long Beach and talked with reporters after the Champ Car finale yesterday. Some of her comments:
"I wish it would have happened a long time ago but, yes, my win is going to be one of those things that's remembered...firsts are in history books. I thought about it before and I wanted to be that person...I did think it would be nice to be the first female in history to win."
"What comes to mind is what Bryan Herta told me at Mid-Ohio last year. I was on the front row for the first time on a road course, which was great, and he said, 'You know, when you win your first race, you're going to go "I wasn't doing anything different that day, it just happened." I wasn't doing anything different at Motegi. It just happened. He was right."
"Congratulations to Will Power and what a great way to end the final Champ Car race here in Long Beach. We'll be back, but it's just not going to be called Champ Car. Congratulations to everyone for making the merger happen. The momentum of the series is clear...it's a bright future for IndyCar and this is just the start. Everything will snowball from here."
"I'm really happy we'll be coming back to Long Beach. It's going to be more exciting...more cars, more everything. It's one of those couple of races that you want to do in a year. Good comment Ms. Patrick and glad you made the trip to the LBGP regardless of who might have planed it. Shows some class in the comments you made, and congratulations on your win. You do deserve it in this very cut throat racig world as you have stuck in ther in spite of I am sure all the negative input you have had to weather over the last seasons.
