When 22-year-old Brandon Davis won the pole position for the Speed World Challenge GT Presented by Applied Computer Solutions race - in his first appearance on the Long Beach street course - he said it was "awesome."
Double that awesome: Davis not only sat on the pole, he won the race Saturday afternooon in his ACS/Sun Microsystems Ford Mustang Cobra.
"I've been coming here since I was a kid," said Davis, whose father Mike, is a long-time racer who finished 7th behind his son this afternoon. "To win here at Long Beach is pretty special."
Randy Pobst (Porche 911 GT3), the defending SPEED GT champion, finished second, with Andy Pilgrim (Cadillac CTS-V) rounding out the podium.
The remainder of the top 10 finishers:
4. Michael Galati, Porsche 911 GT3
5. James Sofronas, Porsche 911 GT3

This is usually the best race at Long Beach, but it was a disappointment this year. No fault of the drivers, just the way it worked out.

You mean the Davis Family Race!
I found it to be an ego stroke for
the Davis Family, Their company the
lead sponser, the son wins the race,
the dad wants to play to, and the mother
announcing the race... oh yeah! the 300
employees who stuck around on corner
9 (the company paid for suite) to
cheer the dad and son on... please!
